Cincinnati Pops Director Erich Kunzel Dies At 74

Award-winning conductor Erich Kunzel has died at the age of 74. He had been diagnosed with liver, colon and pancreatic cancer in April. Kunzel headed the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra since it was founded three decades ago. He had led the National Symphony on the Capitol lawn in nationally televised Memorial Day and Independence Day concerts since 1991.  I so enjoyed his concerts on the Capitol Lawn at the Memoria Day and 4th of July Concerts see more here on PBS.

Check out Janelle Gelfand, music critic for The Enquirer in Cincinnati talks with Renee Montagne about Kunzel’s work.

David Darling: Art of Improv

Art of Improvisation is for musicians and vocalists experienced in any musical tradition, including classical, jazz, theater, rock, ethnic, avant-garde, etc.; and all instruments including acoustic, electric, ethnic drums and percussion, and even homemade. Prior experience in improvisation is not necessary, as this workshop is based on the concept that there are no “wrong notes.” This in-depth workshop is intensive, yet always fun and rewarding. The AOI workshop includes free time for jamming, as well as impromptu showcases, providing participants with the opportunity to improvise in front of each other while their performances are professionally recorded.

Plan to Attend if at all possible!!!
