Bio’s 2018

Honorary Chairperson Jon Arterton moved to the St. Petersburg area in January 2016. He began his musical journey as a choirboy at Washington DC’s National Cathedral. He holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting from The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and was twice a Vocal Fellow at the Tanglewood Music Festival. He also holds an MFA in Acting from Smith College, and has performed in hundreds of plays and musicals, including The Utter Glory of Morrissey Hall on Broadway. He was the founder and musical arranger of The Flirtations, the proudly gay a cappella singing group which performed in venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, and which was seen in the film Philadelphia and on HBO, Good Morning America and MTV. In 2002 he founded The Outer Cape Chorale, a community chorus based in Provincetown, Massachusetts. By the time he left the Cape in 2015 the chorus had grown to 150 voices, and had performed such works as Requiems by Brahms, Mozart, Cherubini and Fauré, several Bach cantatas, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Haydn’s Creation and Mass in the Time of War, Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man; as well as concerts of music by George Gershwin, Gilbert & Sullivan, Stephen Sondheim, the Beatles, folkies from the 60’s and more.  In Provincetown he also served as the Director of Music at The Unitarian Universalist Meeting House. He and his husband James Mack sing together frequently and have released a CD entitled “Legally Married… and the Sky Didn’t Fall!”.  In keeping with his philosophy that singing is good for one’s health and good for the world, Jon gives popular vocal workshops called “Singing with Courage.”

Terez “Firewoman” Hartmann, is a singer-songwriter, recording and performing artist, percussionist, and dancer known for her fiery presence and over-the-top energy who was born with music flowing
through every pore of her being.

A career entertainer since 1994, she’s had the joy of performing for amazing clients including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, the Florida Aquarium, Busch Gardens, Coca-Cola/Superbowl XXXV, several years.

She discovered her voice as a published songwriter/composer after teaching herself piano/keyboard and guitar as an adult, and since 2004, has had her original, positive-focused music used for radio, film, ad campaigns, personal theme songs, and beyond. In 2016, she was also given the great honor of composing the score for “12,” an original, uplifting musical by Fran Taylor Powers (creator of the award-winning Powerstories Theater), which has already enjoyed two successful runs since it’s launch.

Due to her deep desire to use music as a tool to empower, inspire, and help others live life on fire, in 2006, Terez fused her love of music with a successful career as a professional speaker, workshop/retreat facilitator, and published author.

Today (and until the day she leaves this plane of existence) Terez Firewoman continues to create, compose, record, and perform music, for she has found that even with the immense diversity of personalities, belief (or non-belief) systems, lifestyle preferences, cultural, racial & socioeconomic backgrounds, or personal stories she has witnessed during her many years as a creature of creative expression, she has discovered a truth that has remained a constant:

EVERY time a human being allows her/himself to let go and embrace the power of music, differences fade, bridges are built, and, even if only for a few minutes, the fire of joy and unity blaze in all their glory for all the world to see.
