Classical Wake Up Call

In the early 1970’s, I lived in Washington, D. C. with 3 other young women. Judy would wake us up to the beautiful sounds of Liszt’s Liebenstraum No.3 and other beautiful pieces. To this day waking to beautiful classical music, even if only a CD starts my day with a smile.

The Saxophone

Standing in the middle of the orchestra section, just 5 feet from a saxophone a member started sharing her song. WOW! the memory of that visceral experience still amazes me decades later.

Thank You IARF

Piano Memories

At three years old, I would run to the piano, put my foot on the sustaining pedal and play my most beautiful song. Excitedly I would then run to my mother in the kitchen and ask, “Did you like my song.”

“Oh yes, it was very beautiful. Now why don’t you go out side and play?”

“I would respond, oh no, I have another song!” and off I would go to the piano to create. Then run back to my mother to say, “That song was special for you! Did you like it?”

Oh, Thank you, now why don’t you go out side and play?”

I was playing, learning and having a great time even if rather dissonant. Eventually, after the third or fourth song. Mother would prevail and I would go out side to play. But I can still feel the excitement of those joyous moments.
